Our Story

My work with the Mayan people in the highlands of Guatemala during the 1980s and ‘90s inspired me to bring these wonderfully complex gourmet coffees to kitchen tables and coffee shops around the globe. Like the coffee they grow, the culture of the Maya peoples is rich and vibrant. I saw an opportunity to support their efforts, increase their income, and improve the quality of their lives by bringing their fine coffee to connoisseurs and conscious consumers alike.

After living in Guatemala for 16 years, I moved back to the USA in 2001 to establish operations for importing and marketing Guatemalan arts and crafts and organic coffee through a company I founded, Moonflower Enterprises.

In 2003, I was joined by my wife and life and business partner, Maria. She added the spirit, energy, and direction that our enterprises needed to continue linking a well-established network of Mayan farmers and artisans in the South with a loyal—and growing—body of conscientious consumers in the North.

Moonflower Enterprises was closed in 2010. Shortly afterwards, Maria and I founded “Mundo Maya Enterprises”. This company is comprised of several enterprises including Maya Color, Maya Earth Coffee and Posada Martita! And it’s an honor to still work with los Maya de Guatemala!
